What is Law Label?

Law Label was born in the early 19th century and its application aims to inform consumers of the 'invisible' filling ingredients in bedding and soft furniture, known as 'Stuffed/Filling Materials' in English. It is a legally binding label fixed to the product, used to describe the fabric and filler composition/ratio of mattresses, soft furniture, and soft fillers such as pillows, pillows, plush toys, etc. Unless it is the consumer's own behavior, the label cannot be removed from the product during circulation and sales.

Regulation

Currently, 32 states in the United States and the provinces of Quebec, Ontario, and Manitoba in Canada have mandatory requirements for displaying a Law Label on bedding and upholstered furniture, but each state/province has different requirements for products and Law Labels under its jurisdiction. So, if you need to apply for law label and TSSA registration from multiple states/provinces, as well as post certificate maintenance, whether it is cost or time, and the requirements for operators, it is a serious challenge. What is Uniform Registry Number (URN)?

Uniform Registry Number (URN) is a registration code issued by the relevant department of the state government when a state requires registration of bedding or soft furniture products. In addition, when applying for Law Labels in multiple states, it is necessary to use the same registration code. In other words, if your company has obtained a URN in one state, it is recommended to use the same URN when applying for registration in other states. This approach can eliminate restrictions on product circulation between different states and greatly reduce the time and effort of maintaining certificates.

TSSA-Technical Standards ＆ Safety Authority

TSSA is the Technical Standards and Safety Agency of Ontario, Canada, which requires soft filler products sold in Ontario to obtain TSSA registration and meet corresponding labeling requirements before sale. In addition, Quebec or Manitoba also have similar registration requirements. Therefore, if the product is exported to Canada without a clear sales province, Bede suggests registering in each of the three provinces mentioned above to ensure smooth sales of the product in Canada.

In addition to the URN registration number, some states in the United States require that bed down products (quilts, pillows, mattresses, etc.) and second-hand bedding sold in that state must be labeled with the sterilization permit number issued by a specific agency of the state government on the product, otherwise they cannot be sold on the shelves.

A: Not only manufacturers can apply, but if allowed locally, importers and distributors can also apply to register with the same registration number as the manufacturer.

Q: How long is the validity period of the legal trademark registration number?

A: The validity period depends on the requirements of different states.

Q: Can we use the same registration number for the same product produced in two factories or facilities?

A: Each factory or production facility must have its own unified registration number and cannot use the same registration number.
